Katlenburg-Lindau/ Hamburg — Taylor Wessing, led by Frankfurt-based partners Hassan Sohbi (photo ) and Michael Sinhart, advised OmniGuide Holdings Inc, a leading US medical technology company, on the acquisition of LISA Laser Products OHG, a technology leader in surgical lasers based in Katlenburg-Lindau. The acquisition was also accompanied for OmniGuide by the US commercial law firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. The parties have agreed not to disclose details of the acquisition.
OmniGuide specializes in the development of medical devices that use advanced laser technologies to help remove tumors from patients through precise surgical procedures while preserving healthy tissue. For its part, OmniGuide is part of the portfolio of OrbiMed, a leading global investment firm focused on the healthcare sector and headquartered in New York.
LISA Laser Products OHG, based in Katlenburg-Lindau, Germany, has in turn been regarded as a benchmark for surgical laser systems since its foundation in 1989, particularly in the development of holmium and thulium lasers. Especially in the field of urology, products developed by LISA-Laser and complementary products such as laser fibers, endoscopes and accessories have become an important form of therapy.
The acquisition enables the companies to combine LISA Laser’s Thulium and Holmium laser technologies with OmniGuide’s CO2 lasers in the interest of successfully treating patients.
